How it all began – and why Ba.binaa is more than just a sewing pattern label

From the first stitch to your own label ✂️

What began as a childhood dream became Ba.binaa – a place for creative people, for the joy of sewing, for passion projects. Here you can find the whole story.

How it all began – and why Ba.binaa is more than just a sewing pattern label

There are passions that quietly creep into life – and stay. For me, that was sewing.

As a child, I often sat beside my mother as she patiently and lovingly worked at her sewing machine. Back then, I was mainly an observer. Later, I started sewing myself: first small projects, then clothes that suited my rather petite figure – because so much off-the-rack clothing was simply too big for me. And then, at some point, with the birth of my daughter, there was this deep need to create something for her with my own hands. Something to wear, something to feel good in, something to keep.

That this love of sewing would one day become an entire label? I never would have imagined it back then. But sometimes the journey begins very quietly – with a seam.

From wish to reality

I tried many things, searched extensively. For sewing patterns that truly suited me. Patterns that allowed for creativity, personality – and heart. At some point, I realized: I can't find what I'm looking for. So I'm simply making it myself.

I had no business plan, no strategy – but I had an idea. And it was strong enough to set me in motion. With the support of a fantastic pattern maker, the first Ba.binaa patterns were created. That was in 2020 – after the official founding of Ba.binaa in 2018.

I also started an apprenticeship as a fashion product technician specializing in pattern making – until the birth of my second child. Even though I put it on hold for the time being, it was a valuable foundation for what I do today and what I incorporate into my label.

Fun fact: My label's very first name had to be dropped after a friendly letter from my lawyer. So Ba.binaa wasn't just a decision of the heart – it was also one born of necessity. And I couldn't imagine a better one today.

Between coffee and children's laughter

Ba.binaa's beginnings were right in the middle of my maternity leave. My daughter slept – sometimes a lot. And I sat at my laptop and sewing machines, tinkering, discarding, and redesigning. It was a time full of creative energy, with lots of coffee and even more ideas.

Today, Ba.binaa is much more than a passion project. It's my job. And my calling. I love being creative, designing new things, and seeing an idea become a finished garment – worn by you, sewn with love.

My workspace is a very special place. It's a storage area, an idea factory, and a retreat all in one – filled with fabric treasures, prototypes, iron-on transfers, and visions.

Things you might not know about me

Besides Ba.binaa, I also work in a very special field: I'm the production manager at a social institution – a job that's similarly creative and structured. There, too, I get to work with textiles and with wonderful people.

In my personal life, I love country living. My chickens, my two wonderful daughters, and the life we lead together. Even as a single mother, I manage to juggle two jobs and my children – and be very happy despite it all. Every area of my life – both professional and personal – feels fulfilling. And that is a great gift.

And when time allows, I love to travel. Minimally, with light luggage and great curiosity. I love places off the beaten track – and find inspiration in the peace and quiet, in real life, in the unplanned.

Why a blog now?

Because I want to share more with you than just new sewing patterns. I want to take you with me: behind the scenes, into my thoughts, into my everyday life. I want to show you how an idea becomes a product – and why so much heart goes into every single piece from Ba.binaa.

And I want to get to know you better. To see your creations, hear your stories, celebrate your creativity. When I scroll through Instagram and see your sewn Ba.binaa pieces, I feel proud, touched, and motivated to keep going every time.

Because Ba.binaa is not just a shop. It's a place for creative minds, colorful ideas, and real people.

It's great that you're here. It's great that you're part of it.
Thank you for your support – and for sewing with heart.
Your Karin
